Throwback Thursday Concert: The Cure in 1980

This is awesome. Look at those kids! They look like people straight out of my yearbooks in the 80s. This is Robert Smith before the hair. This is the Cure before the dark theatrics. These are a few kids that are a few years into making music together and are just trying to make it work. Plus it’s in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. When will I ever type “Apeldoorn” again in my life? I couldn’t miss the chance.

For the uninitiated, you should probably start around the 7:34 mark to hear the more accessible “Jumping Someone Else’s Train” followed by one my favorites “A Forest.”

As far as I can tell, the lineup at the time was…

Long-time Cure members:
Robert Smith – guitar and vocals
Lol Tolhurst – drums
Simon Gallup – bass

And this guy I’d never heard of before:
Matthieu Hartley – Keyboards

Have you ever seen the Cure like this? Ever been to one of their shows? Let me know what you think!
