Have you played with the new Apple Music? I have. Honestly, I’m not thrilled.
When help up against Spotify, the new service just doesn’t seem to know me at all. The tracks all seem to be a bit more tired, a bit more mainstream and a lot more obvious.
The killer feature of Apple Music was supposed to be the “For You” feature that recommends new music to discover. Well, let me tell you, Apple Music… I will not be purchasing any Madonna deep cuts, nor will I be swooning to Maroon 5.
That’s a long way to say “THANK YOU!” to Spotify. They continue to get me. I have long been a fan of the Radio feature that will let you find songs/artists similar to one you pick (ala Pandora, but BETTER!). If you’re out by the pool, I recommend the “I Wanna Get Better” by Bleachers radio station. I found more great related music there than I have anywhere in Apple Music.
And now, Spotify has added a new feature to keep up with the Appleses: Discover Weekly. It’s a two-hour playlist built just for you based on your listening, what your friends are listening to and what is hot. I found the list they put together for me is a great combination of older, familiar stuff, some new bands I love and some new discoveries. Here’s what they put together for me…
So, if you haven’t listened to Spotify in a while, go give it another listen. You’ll love what they are doing.
