The Summer of 1990 was a big summer of growing up for me. I’d just finished my Freshman year at college. I came home to a world that suddenly seemed a big foreign. I took a job opening a new aquatic center, managing the lifeguard staff and counseling at a summer camp in a town about an hour away from home. I broke my first tooth, broke my second heart, faced some tough realities, met some of the most amazing people and put a lot of miles on my car. Yes, this car (the red one)…
It may not have had air conditioning, but it had a moonroof, power windows and it would talk to you if you were acting irresponsibly (Left door is OPEN!)
Needless to say, a summer like that needs a soundtrack – and it was a good one. As I looked back, I realized I had forgotten a LOT of these songs. It’s been a really fun time to put them all together in one list. Now, when I’m driving around in my new maroon car with the roof popped open, I can sing them with the same vim and verve that I did 25 years ago. Jeez… that hurt to type. 25 years.
Without further ado, I’m happy that I can share my Summer of 1990 mixed tape with you now.
See anything that I might have missed? I feel there has to be something. Let me know in the comments.
