You can look at the the pictures, but you still can’t really seem to put all of the pieces together in your head: fun-loving rednecks, the great outdoors, camouflage and a fleet of old Barbie kids cars.
Even know that you see it, I’ll bet you’re having a hard time figuring out what this is. Well, my friends, this is Extreme Barbie Jeep Racing. I’d never heard of it until I read about it in Mashable today. But now, I’m looking at these amazing photographs and can’t help but think this is one of the things I was born to do.
For the past few years, Busted Knuckle Films has hosted this amazing event. The bill it as
… the most dangerous off-road sports per dollar you can possibly get into. It is also the most FUN.
You’re just a few simple steps away from joining the fun…
- Find yourself an old children’s power wheel plastic vehicle.
- Rip out the drive gear.
- Drag it up a big hill.
- Put on a helmet.
- Climb aboard for the ride of your life!
This year’s race was held in Booneville, Arkansas. From what I can tell, the races have taken place throughout the South in years past. So, if you’d like to look death in the eye over the pink dashboard of your Barbie car, then this is the race for you!
Here are a few pictures to give you a bit more of a flavor of this race…
Not convinced? Here’s a video of the race in 2012.
This really might be my thing. Past participants say that it takes zero skill and athleticism has nothing to do with the results. And let’s face it… gravity loves me!
On second thought, if my family ever caught me doing something like that my wife, daughter or mother (or any number of my friends who are all significantly brighter than me!) would drag me off of that car by my ear and tell me to quit being stupid. And they’d be right!
